Kangaroo – A Suspended Leap Sculpted by Pascal Chesneau

With “Kangaroo”, Pascal Chesneau continues his exploration of void and form, capturing a fleeting instant in the midst of motion. Far from static representation, this artwork immortalizes a leap — a bound frozen in time, rendered not through fullness but through absence. This kangaroo seems quite literally sculpted by emptiness.

Crafted from recycled metal, the piece reflects the artist’s eco-conscious philosophy — transforming abandoned materials into expressive, living shapes. The kangaroo, a universal symbol of agility and balance, is shown mid-jump: hind legs extended, tail counterbalancing, forelimbs tucked in. Yet the most striking element is the open cavity in its abdomen, a bold void that gives the entire sculpture a feeling of weightlessness, almost immateriality.

The minimalist base allows the animal to launch forward, projecting into space. The viewer’s gaze follows the arched back, the stretch of the body, and the focused direction of the head. The oxidized metal, marked with pits and textures, evokes something organic and elemental — like a surface shaped by fire and time. Each rough edge and crater whispers of past lives, of memory embedded in the material.

Pascal Chesneau doesn’t replicate; he evokes. In this kangaroo, he delivers a snapshot of vital energy, a gesture held mid-air. The sculpture becomes a silent fragment of motion, a moment on the verge of continuing. It is a memory of movement — fragile, suspended, profound.

With its modest yet striking dimensions (37 x 68 x 12 cm), “Kangaroo” fits seamlessly into a contemporary interior or a wildlife art collection. It speaks to lovers of poetic, purposeful sculpture, to those who value ethical creation and emotional resonance. Through reclaimed material, Chesneau breathes new meaning and lightness into solid metal.

With “Kangaroo”, the artist once again shows his gift for blending nature with abstraction, mass with transparency, and animality with contemporary expression.
