 Anima Corpus  III: Elevation Between Matter and Spirit

In Anima Corpus III, Pascal Borghi continues his exploration of the tension between flesh and elevation. This monumental sculpture in stoneware and wood presents a suspended human figure—a body unfurling at the summit of a carved column.

The posture, leaning forward with arms and head reaching into space, evokes release or surrender. The raw, textured modeling of the stoneware suggests living flesh—petrified in a moment of ecstasy or vertigo. The nude torso and extended limbs pulse with a vital breath, an inner tension ready to burst.

The column beneath is not just a base: it extends the organic feel of the piece, with its mineral textures and layered structure. It becomes an axis of anchoring—a vertical trunk that opposes the gravity of matter to the weightless reach of the human form.

Anima Corpus III questions the boundary between what elevates us and what grounds us. The sculpture seems to be at once emerging and dissolving—carved from the stone yet striving for transcendence.
