Sophie Bassot melts into nature, generously opening her arms and welcoming it in all simplicity. Her painting is an adjustment to life. Sophie paints, interprets and suggests without ever interfering between the work and the viewer, letting the landscape come to her. Concerned with the very essence of freedom, the artist ensures that her work remains free of any intention; she is merely its messenger.
Sophie's work becomes a window onto the future. Using essential lines, she captures elementary forms, transitions or passages, towards the eternal search for tranquillity. The artist thanks nature for its immense, protective, generous and spiritual guidance. For the artist, the landscape is a silent painting, a state of suspension.
"By learning to look at it, I discovered my true nature, and it is my interpreter" SB
The painting stands as an idea rather than an object, the place for intuitions and structures on which her thoughts are organised. Mastery and letting go are combined in a spiritual dance, as Sophie brings out the nuances and features of her landscapes in successive layers, a meticulous construction that respects time and the rhythm of the elements.
Sophie Bassot's large-format paintings have found their way into many collections, and two of her works were recently purchased by the Musée de St Florent Auzonet.

The gallery's words

Quite simply, it's an encounter where the work and the artist become one. It's a moment of simplicity between confidences and laughter, a joie de vivre driven by an inner spiritual life. Sophie Bassot is generous and filled with a sense of accomplishment. The entrance to the studio is magical, and I'm moved by the light, which magnifies the landscapes hanging on the walls or stored on the floor. Silence is the order of the day, and a space of contemplation is instantly created. The place is a reflection of the artist: warm, open and intimate. You just want to sit back and let yourself be contemplated.
