Benjamin Carbonne was born in 1970 in Saint Martin d'Hères, Isère. A self-taught artist, he delved into this art at the age of 20, using it to "speak" about what disturbs or moves him, sometimes expressing his own violence, that of others, or of the world, ultimately making room within himself for something else.
In his pursuit of knowledge, Benjamin Carbonne seized an opportunity to study anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine. Today, he is liberated from the technical aspect of anatomy and is purely spontaneous and emotional in his expression.
The artist often depicts tormented beings; this period of his work will focus on faces that are sometimes gentle and sensitive, but also frequently torn, ripped, or distorted by pain, outcry, or the need for expression.
In 2004, he co-founded the contemporary art workshop "Interférences" with Antonio Rodriguez Yuste (poet and painter), expanding their collaboration to include Stéphane Carbonne (sculptor, painter, singer).
Specific artworks have marked Benjamin's evolution: in 2007, the creation of a 50-meter-long fresco at the Rivesaltes camp gave new meaning to his approach and guided him in understanding his "place" as an artist within history. In 2009, the commission of a "Pieta" led Benjamin to approach his work on the body in a different way.
After intensely exploring the expression of what could be most raw, most deeply wounded within himself and humanity, Benjamin naturally embarks on a new path, focusing on other bodies or faces, revealing their full power through a contrast of depths and lightness, of pictorial precision and spaces of the imagination.
