With the Graal G10 bowl, Philippe Sutter brings his exploration of crystalline porcelain to a new level of depth and resonance. Part of the Graal series, this work transcends function to become a sculptural and symbolic object, conceived as a space of reception, contemplation, and inner movement. Crafted in porcelain with crystalline glazes, it is defined by a base color of Indian blue, profound, enveloping, and vibrantly alive.
The form of the bowl is open and generous, almost ceremonial in its presence. A dense, firmly grounded foot supports a wide, flared basin that opens fully toward the viewer. This openness is essential: it anchors the piece in the symbolic lineage of the Grail as a vessel of passage, transformation, and meaning. The bowl contains nothing tangible, yet it receives light, time, and gaze—an intentional emptiness that gives the work its quiet power.
The Indian blue that flows across Graal G10 is never uniform. It unfolds in a rich spectrum of deep blues—sometimes nocturnal, sometimes aqueous—interwoven with hints of verdigris, steel-like reflections, and paler translucent zones. Historically associated with travel, introspection, and spiritual depth, this color operates here as a mental and emotional field. It absorbs light before releasing it in subtle shifts, giving the surface a slow, breathing presence.
Across the porcelain surface, the crystalline glazes organize themselves into expansive organic formations, evoking wings, petals, or mineral drifts caught mid-expansion. Each crystal appears to radiate from an invisible center, unfolding fine, almost calligraphic veins. These microscopic landscapes are the result of an exceptionally demanding process: high firing temperatures, precisely controlled cooling cycles, and carefully calibrated chemical compositions. Despite this technical rigor, an essential element remains unpredictable. It is within this space of uncertainty that the work’s singularity emerges.
As a result, Graal G10 is a one-of-a-kind artwork, impossible to reproduce identically. The viewer’s eye moves slowly across the surface, following lines of growth frozen by fire, shifting from dense, saturated areas to more translucent passages. The bowl transforms with changes in angle, proximity, and light. It never reveals itself all at once.
Light plays a fundamental role in the experience of the piece. At times, the Indian blue appears velvety and absorbed, almost matte; at others, it ignites with a satin-like shimmer, revealing the internal architecture of the crystals. The bowl oscillates between stillness and vibration, between interior depth and outward radiance. It invites slowness, attention, and contemplation.
Within the landscape of contemporary ceramic art, Philippe Sutter occupies a distinctive position. His work with crystalline glazes on porcelain unites rare technical mastery with a deeply poetic artistic language. The Graal series reflects his desire to move beyond utility toward a sculptural and symbolic dimension, where material becomes meaning. The Graal G10 bowl thus speaks to collectors, art lovers, and connoisseurs seeking to buy art online that embodies time, transformation, and material intelligence.
More than a bowl, Graal G10 is a porcelain sculpture—an object of presence and reflection in which crystalline Indian blue becomes depth, space, and memory of fire. Conceived to endure, it is a work designed to inhabit both interior spaces and the sustained gaze of those who encounter it.
