In 2013, this young engineer graduated from Arts et Métiers naturally set out to explore positions in line with his initial training. This is how he discovered watchmaking in Switzerland, then in France within larger groups, innovation with medical assistance equipment and the automobile. Bastien holds important positions, however in 2018 he feels the irrepressible need to balance his mental load with a manual activity. The need to touch the material, his ability to apprehend space and volumes, combined with his sensitivity for the animal world, naturally guide him towards sculpture which he will discover, at first, during initiation workshops. Curious, Bastien pursues his research in self-taught and learns from his mistakes. Soon after, "The American Bison" will be born in his hands, revealing a new path to follow.
In March 2020, Bastien and his partner felt the need to explore the world, particularly Asia.
They took a sabbatical and left for 6 months in Indonesia and the Philippines, where they were enriched by the daily encounters they had with people. Back in France in the fall of 2020, the confinement gives Bastien Bonhomme an unexpected chance to devote himself entirely to sculpture and to explore its paths and its materials. The first bronze is born in September 2020, an important event that will date his entry into the artistic world.
Since then, Bastien combines technique and rigor with his creativity to create works that highlight the diversity of the animal world. He enjoys and is inspired by what the animal gives, character, and often offbeat expressions.
The gallery's word
While I was on vacation in September 2021, I received an email from Bastien presenting his work. I immediately fell in love with his work and after several exchanges we decided to work together. It is difficult to stand out in animal sculpture and yet Bastien has a real artistic signature and a great elegance in the treatment of subjects. Clean, suggested, the lines of the animals have in common the benevolent glance of the artist who restores with accuracy its letters of nobility to the animal world.
